Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 13, 2026
We respect your privacy, never sell your personal information, and show no ads. Here's exactly what that means.
Overview
Shorttales is made by Shortapps, a small independent app studio. We build calm, ad-free apps — and we treat your data with the same care. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not show third-party advertising. Shorttales is designed to be used by families: a parent or guardian holds the account and the subscription, and reads alongside their child.
Information we collect
We keep collection to what the app needs to work:
- Account information — when you sign in, we use anonymous guest sign-in by default; if you choose Sign in with Apple, we receive the identifier (and optionally the name/email) Apple provides.
- Subscription information — your purchase and entitlement status. Payment itself is processed by Apple; we never see or store your card details.
- Reading activity — the stories you open, your progress, favorites, and reading preferences (such as text size and theme), so the app can remember where you were and improve the library.
- Device & usage data — basic technical information such as device type, app version, and diagnostic data used to keep the app stable.
- Referral information — if you arrived through an affiliate or referral link, we record the referral so credit can be attributed correctly.
How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- Provide and maintain the app, your library, and your reading progress.
- Process subscriptions and restore purchases.
- Send technical and support messages you request.
- Improve the stories, the experience, and app reliability.
- Attribute referrals and operate our affiliate program.
- Comply with our legal obligations.
How we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only in these limited cases:
- Service providers who help us operate the app (for example, Apple for sign-in and payments, and Google Firebase for our backend and analytics), under agreements that limit their use of the data.
- Legal authorities, when we are required to by law.
- Business partners, only with your consent.
Children's privacy
Shorttales is intended for parents and guardians to use with children, including children under 13. Protecting children's data matters to us, so we deliberately keep it minimal:
We do not require a child to create an account, we do not knowingly collect more personal information from a child than the app needs to function, we do not show behavioral advertising, and we do not sell children's data. The account and subscription are managed by an adult.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe we have collected information from your child that you would like reviewed or removed, contact us and we will act promptly.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the app, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you ask us to delete your data, we remove it except where we are required to retain it by law.
Your rights & choices
You can access, correct, export, or request deletion of your personal information, and opt out of any non-essential communications at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. To exercise any of these, email us using the address below.
Data security
We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe and to limit access to it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
